Being a school bus driver is not just about driving a big yellow bus; it’s about keeping kids safe. But there are days when it feels like no one else understands that. Between kids misbehaving and parents not backing up rules, the job can be incredibly frustrating.
Kids act out on the bus — standing up, yelling, and even fighting—while I’m trying to drive safely and keep an eye on the road. I can’t keep the bus under control and watch everything going on behind me at the same time. And when I report misbehavior to parents, it’s discouraging when I don’t get the support I need. It’s not my job to babysit; my job is to make sure every child gets to school and home safely.
And let’s not forget the other drivers who ignore the flashing lights and stop sign. Every time someone blows past the bus, they risk kids' lives. We need drivers to follow the law for everyone's safety.
The truth is, this job would be so much easier if parents and drivers worked with us. Kids need to be taught to respect the rules, and drivers need to stop when the bus is flashing red. Together, we can make sure kids are safe and get where they need to go.
