Corporate sponsorship removes cost barriers, enabling 81 districts to bring democracy to life for students
When transportation costs threaten to keep students from experiencing government firsthand, partnerships step in to bridge the gap. Honda of America Manufacturing has announced funding for 81 Ohio schools to transport students to the State Capitol for guided tours during the 2025–26 academic year.
The program transforms potential budget barriers into educational opportunities, covering bus transportation costs based on distance traveled:
Schools within 50 miles: $200
51–100 miles: $300
Beyond 100 miles: $400
Transportation directors know that experiential learning requires getting students out of classrooms and into real-world settings. This partnership recognizes that civic education works best when students can see democracy in action at the Ohio Statehouse.
“What students learn in textbooks comes alive when they walk the halls where decisions are made,” reflects the program’s emphasis on hands-on learning.
Ohio schools receiving state funding can apply between September 15–22, 2025. Tours accommodate groups of 20 or more students in grades 4–12, giving students direct access to their state government facilities.
This collaboration showcases how private-sector partnerships can eliminate transportation obstacles while supporting civic education—proving that when communities invest in student mobility, democracy benefits.
