School bus manufacturing is back in New York State, thanks to Micro Bird’s new Plattsburgh facility — a $38 million investment in the future of student transportation.
The plant, which started producing its signature small buses in July, plans to grow from 225 to 350 employees by 2030. This marks the first time school buses have been manufactured in New York in nearly 20 years.
“This facility brings high-quality manufacturing jobs back to our region while supporting the critical infrastructure that safely transports our students,” said Governor Kathy Hochul, who helped secure the project.
Expansion plans include producing midsize and commercial buses, positioning New York as a growing hub for student transportation manufacturing. State grants and tax credits helped make the project possible, highlighting a collaborative effort to boost the industry.
This development underscores the resilience and innovation in school transportation, creating jobs for skilled workers and strengthening the infrastructure that serves communities nationwide.
