In Ireland, a county councillor has proposed that by 2026, every child should have access to a school bus, highlighting the importance of safe and fair student transportation.
Social Democrats councillor Ann Bambury explained that current rules — which limit bus eligibility based on distance and the “nearest suitable school” — often make it difficult for families, especially in rural areas. Removing these restrictions would make school transport more inclusive, reduce car traffic, and support environmental goals.
“Every child should be entitled to a place on a school bus when accessing their education,” Bambury said, emphasizing the need for fairness and accessibility.
