A planned school bus worker strike in Rhode Island will not begin on Friday, September 4.
More than 750 First Student workers are represented by Teamsters Local 251. The union and First Student are still discussing new local agreements for drivers and other school bus employees.
A strike could affect school transportation in Providence, Pawtucket, Lincoln, Smithfield, Central Falls, Bristol-Warren, Portsmouth, West Warwick and other routes across the state.
For now, school buses are expected to run normally on Friday. However, the two sides have not announced a final agreement. A strike could still happen later if they cannot reach a deal.
Families should watch for updates from their school districts and transportation providers.
