A new partnership between Walton County School District, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, and Gatekeeper Systems will strengthen safety around stopped school buses in Florida.
The Student Protector system uses bus-mounted cameras and AI to detect vehicles that pass while the stop arm is extended. It captures video and license-plate information that can be reviewed during the citation process, allowing bus drivers to remain focused on students.
Gatekeeper reports that more than 5,800 of these systems have been installed since 2018. Walton County officials hope the technology will increase driver awareness, improve accountability, and make boarding and leaving the bus safer for students.
